Dec. Kid's Edition (Chapter Three)

Our last trip to Santiago was a big thumbs up. We love to stop at the gas stations to run around at the play areas.

When we got home from our trip to Santiago, we found out that our cat had her kittens. They are so cute.

Speaking of cute, here's Lukas putting up with us as we put wigs on him.

Kaylee: I was able to play Aunt Earlynne's new piano while daddy worked on the BI kitchen.

Lukas always tries to look so cool!

We were able to spend Christmas Eve with our three cousins at Camp Lican!

Kaylee: I also helped Aunt Earlynne hang the laundry at the BI last week.

We all slept in the living room by the Christmas tree on Christmas Eve. We couldn't wait to open up our one big gift the next morning.

That one big gift turned out to be one BIG trampoline. We have been JuMpInG ever since...

The puppies at camp are growing up so fast. The best news of all is that we are going to get one of these puppies!!! We'll have to tell you more about that in future kid's editions.

Answer to Prayer & another Prayer Request

Answer to Prayer: Our Town & Country was sold on Christmas Day to a FL buyer! The mini van is actually still on its way by boat to Florida as I type. The money from the sale will be used to buy a used vehicle here in Chile.

And speaking of that...

Prayer Request: I (David) travel by overnight bus tonight (Sunday) to Santiago in order to spend the next week purchasing a vehicle and getting it legally ready to drive back to Temuco. Lord willing, this can happen in the next four or five days.

Please pray that the Lord will provide a vehicle this coming week that will meet our family and ministry needs and be a decent price.

Christmas Cookies

The day before Christmas Eve, Kristi made some sugar cookies and icing in preparation for a small Christmas package for our neighbors.

We each iced some cookies and put them on Christmas plates.

Each neighbor received a homemade Christmas card and a Gospel of John.

Please be in prayer for our immediate neighbors. We pray that they will read the book of John (and the Gospel presentation that was included). We look forward to developing our contacts and relationships with our neighbors throughout this coming year.

Christmas Program at Church

On Sunday, Dec. 20th, the 21 de Mayo church had their Christmas program.

The boys (in green and gold) played Bethlehem inn keepers and had a few lines (in Spanish) that told Mary and Joseph that they had no more room for them to stay.

Kaylee (in yellow) played one of the shepherds. She had no lines, but her antics along with the others were enough to keep the scene interesting (to say the least).

For the adult part of the program (during the evening service), there was a drama. Many of the adults played some role throughout the drama. In a nutshell, the drama was a news program where the two hosts (Patty and Julio) where investigating the true meaning of Christmas. Through live and video taped interviews of those in the Biblical account (ie Mary and Joseph) and modern day people, they developed that Christmas is really supposed to be about Christ and not materialism.

Above: The hosts were interviewing an eyewitness "live" from Bethlehem. Kristi played a small part in the program by playing a lady who was a foreigner and didn't enjoy Christmas because she was all alone. Ben, Jordan, and Kaylee watching the adult program during the evening service.

This Old BI Kitchen

Growing up, one of my mom's favorite TV shows was PBS's This Old House. I remember watching it with her often. I was always amazed at the knowledge of the hosts and how quickly projects got done (um...editing).

Since starting on the Bible Institute kitchen project two weeks ago, I've had first hand experience in seeing how extensive a renovation project can be...especially with limited man power and limited finances.

All of the floor boards and siding were torn out last week. The room was down to bare bones.

Behind some of the old wood siding, we found that it was full of cement. It was filled with cement to act like insulation. All of the cement had to be taken out.
What a job!!

All of the old flooring and siding needed to be taken outside and sorted through. Most of it will be cut up and used for fire wood next winter.

Oscar (a BI student) came to help with all the water and gas lines.

Victor has been working on all of the electrical work.

Ramón is our carpenter (by trade) and has been extremely helpful with all of the structural issues. The floor had to be re-leveled to make it ready for a new base level of floor boards.

I have been helping with general cleanup and cutting up old boards for firewood. I have also gone with Daryl on runs to the lumber yard or the hardware store to buy supplies.

Kaylee has gone with me several mornings to let Kristi have more time to focus on homeschooling Jordan and Ben at home. She has been "helping" by sweeping up saw dust. She also has been spending some time with Earlynne while the crew works in the kitchen.

The work team: (L to R) Ramón, Daryl, Oscar, David, & Victor

Today, the base level of the floor was finished.

Tomorrow, Lord willing, the new ceiling will be put in and the dry wall will start to go up on the walls.

We will keep you posted on the progress. Please pray that this project will be completed by the next semester. There are several challenges and hurdles that stand in the way to finish this project. They include: time, man power, and finances.

To be continued...
