Growing up, one of my mom's favorite TV shows was PBS's
This Old House. I remember watching it with her often. I was always amazed at the knowledge of the hosts and how quickly projects got done (um...editing).
Since
starting on the Bible Institute kitchen project two weeks ago, I've had first hand experience in seeing how extensive a renovation project can be...especially with limited man power and limited finances.

All of the floor boards and siding were torn out last week. The room was down to bare bones.

Behind some of the old wood siding, we found that it was full of cement. It was filled with cement to act like insulation. All of the cement had to be taken out.
What a job!!
All of the old flooring and siding needed to be taken outside and sorted through. Most of it will be cut up and used for fire wood next winter.

Oscar (a BI student) came to help with all the water and gas lines.

Victor has been working on all of the electrical work.

Ramón is our carpenter (by trade) and has been extremely helpful with all of the structural issues. The floor had to be re-leveled to make it ready for a new base level of floor boards.

I have been helping with general cleanup and cutting up old boards for firewood. I have also gone with Daryl on runs to the lumber yard or the hardware store to buy supplies.
Kaylee has gone with me several mornings to let Kristi have more time to focus on homeschooling Jordan and Ben at home. She has been "helping" by sweeping up saw dust. She also has been spending some time with Earlynne while the crew works in the kitchen.

The work team: (L to R) Ramón, Daryl, Oscar, David, & Victor

Today, the base level of the floor was finished.

Tomorrow, Lord willing, the new ceiling will be put in and the dry wall will start to go up on the walls.
We will keep you posted on the progress.
Please pray that this project will be completed by the next semester. There are
several challenges and hurdles that stand in the way to finish this project. They include: time, man power, and finances.
To be continued...
