Unpacking & Settling In

Upon arrival to campus, there was a long list of things to do.
1. Pick up registration packet (fill everything out)
2. Buy textbooks
3. Get mail box combination
4. Set up phone & internet
5. Pay school bill

Most of these things will be finalized on registration day (Monday), but I was encouraged to get all of them done early to avoid the rush.

RGBI is also a Spanish Bible Institute. The national students are still on break till next week. Two of them stopped by to offer an affordable car wash (inside & out). They did a great job getting all the MN road salt off the van. As for the inside, they vacuumed and wiped down everything. They must have found 45 fruit snacks, 34 crayons, 23 juice boxes, 12 crackers, and several "used" Kleenexes. We were thankful for a clean van to drive again...it's been a while.

I think one of the things that I am still getting used to is that Jordan and Ben can roam free without supervision. The campus here is very safe for kids and everyone looks out for each other, but the thought of those two running around...doing who knows what, is hard for me. The boys have already made a friend in Josh (another family going to Chile as missionaries) who is 10 years old.

We decided to go into Edinburg to go out to eat since we had limited food items in the apartment. In honor of our close friend Steph, we ate at Whataburger. It was a new place for us since it is a regional restaurant.

Next, we all went to H.E.B to get groceries. It was a zoo!!! All the "Winter Texans" or "Snowbirds" are here in the Valley soaking in the sun, so everything is gridlock (traffic, stores, & restaurants). Plus, navigating a new grocery store with three hyper kids hanging off the cart was exhausting and frustrating. Our last stop was Wal-Mart to buy household items like cleaning supplies. I stayed in the van with the three kids, while Kristi went into the store. An hour later, she came out...she was in line for 30 minutes!! Ben fell asleep in the van and Kaylee was a mess emotionally.

Note to self..."Next time get a babysitter for shopping runs"

Just out our back door is a swing set for our kids to play on.

I just happened to glance outside to check on them, when I saw Jordan giving Kaylee an aggressive "under-dog". And you wonder why I am still nervous about letting our kids play outside unsupervised?

Our last two plastic tubs arrived this morning, and we are still unpacking. Continue to pray for our family as we adjust to the new apartment and schedule. I am still working on a series of posts that will give a photo tour of campus and our apartment. Come back again to see those in the following days.

Aha! I can tell by the backyard picture where your apartment is. I wasn't in that row all that much. You do have A/C, right??

P.S. When your kids get around to the playground that was in "our" back yard (behind the day care) - beware of fire ant hills, rusted chains and especially check the tire swings to make sure the one with the killer metal spikes has been repaired!

PS #2 - I'm jealous about Whataburger ... their supersized sweet tea and fresh onion rings ... mmmm!!
