Things We Do in the Van (Day 3)

Day 3
Departed around 9:45 am
Traveled 482 miles
2 Stops (Lunch & Supper)
Arrived at 8:15 pm

Today was the longest of our days of travel (mileage wise), so we all had to come up with creative ways to stay sane in the van. Here is what our day was like:

Kaylee played for a long time with the LeapPad. Closer to the end of the day she had a conversation with Kristi that went like this...

Kaylee: "Get out!"

Kristi: "What's wrong Kaylee?"

Kaylee: "I get out, Mommy! I get out!"

Kristi: "Do you want to get out of your car seat?"

Kaylee: "Yeah!"

Kristi: "You can't get out till we get to the hotel, ok honey. We are almost there."

Kaylee: "Go faster daddy! Go faster!"

I ate deer jerky, listened to music, and tried to guess exactly when the snow cover would disappear (in northern OK, by the way).

Ben spent most of the morning looking through the binoculars that Grandpa gave us for Christmas. He kept getting frustrated that the van was "too bumpy" to see anything.

Kristi did some of the driving today (which I am thankful for). I think I know why she offered, because usually the driver gets a break from the constant turning around to hand out snacks, picking up garbage, turning on the DVD player, wiping noses, and general discipline issues. I had some time to read a Monk Mystery novel while Ben and Kaylee took a nap.

Speaking of naps...Jordan rarely takes one. He didn't today. He spent the afternoon coloring. Notice how he started the trip with his sweatshirt on...

...but ended the afternoon with it off. He gets so hot, cause he moves so much. The weather was very cold this morning when we left Nebraska, and didn't warm up much at all. We arrived to our hotel in Norman, OK to 40 degrees.

Kaylee took a very long nap...probably due to the fact that she stayed up till 11 pm the night before at the Love's house.

Our hotel was in Norman, OK (and for you MN Vikings fans...this is the city where the Oklahoma University is located. Adrian Peterson played his college football here). Kristi and I were very tired and all three of the kids were hyper when we arrived.

After baths, I promised that the kids could play some learning games on www.pbskids.org.

Kaylee was very relaxed after her bath, and she spent most of her computer time leaning on my back.

Happy New Year to all and we decided that we will bring in 2008 by going to bed early. Another long day ahead of us tomorrow.

Thanks for your thoughts, calls, and prayers.

We will try to post tomorrow night on the blog, so come back again.

It was so wonderful to spend some time with you all but it was way too short. I think the 2 a.m. bedtime was too early, David!

Kristi, I finally got unpacked today!!! Maybe tomorrow I can tackle the Christmas decorations. I will call you tomorrow since you are my Verizon buddy! :)

We are praying for safe travels and nice hotels for you. :)

Love you all!
