"Dieciocho" Teen Retreat (Part 2)

Read part one...

Serving Behind the Scenes

Camp ministry takes teamwork. A weekend retreat doesn't just come together by itself. It takes time. It takes effort. And sometimes it takes time away from "out front" interaction with the teens. A large majority of what goes on at camp happens "behind the scenes".

Often these jobs and projects are dirty, time consuming, and less than glamorous. Most of the time, those who serve in these areas, don't ever receive the credit or even a thank you. A true servant's heart is when one serves the Lord, no matter if someone is watching or not.

This post is dedicated to those who helped behind the scenes this past weekend at the teen retreat.

Someone needed to arrange the schedule. Thanks Dan, Walter, and Luciano.

Someone needed to make the daily bread. Thanks kitchen crew.

Someone needed to put together the 190 shishkabobs. Thanks Liz, Felipe, and Angelica.

Someone needed to prepare the grill and hot coals to cook the shishkabobs. Thanks Dan.

Someone needed to keep the firewood pile stocked. Thanks David Galaz (and others).

Someone needed to make all those yummy empanadas. Thanks Liz, Myrian and Edelmira.

Someone needed to clean up the two inches of water in the girls bathroom when a hose blew.

Someone needed to repair the light fixtures in the dinning hall. Thanks Víctor.

Someone needed to wash all of the dishes for every meal. Thanks Juan Marcos (and others).

Someone needed to serve the starving teenagers each meal. Thanks Liz, Nina, and Hilda.

Someone needed to daily clean the BOYS bathroom (a job that is very low on the "cool" scale). Thanks Juan Marcos (and others).

And just in case I missed someone...Thanks to all who did stuff that I didn't take a picture of.

A big thank you to all of the counselors and staff that served during the teen retreat! May God bless each one of you for your willingness to serve for the Sept. Teen Retreat.

Come back again for part 3.

Ah the Body of Christ in action! Gotta love that Christian camping ministry! Now just think of doing the same thing over and over all year long. ...And the thing to remember is that it's a new experience to the camper each time--love it! May God continue to use His Word and this experience to teach and instruct in the life of each of the campers and staff long after camp is over!
