Michelle Bachelet

-Age 55 (born in 1951)

-Her father, an air force general, was tortured and died in prison. He had been in the government of Salvador Allende, which was overthrown in a 1973 coup led by Augusto Pinochet. Michelle Bachelet and her mother were also imprisoned and tortured.

-Former surgeon, pediatrician, & epidemiologist with studies in military strategy

-Moderate Socialist
-1st woman president of Chile

-Won with 53.5% of the vote

-Speaks Spanish, English, German, Portuguese, & French

-Separated from her husband

-Mother of three

-Self-described agnostic

-Ranked #17 most powerful women in the world (By the way...Hillary Rodham Clinton is ranked #18)
