E a Rt H qU aK e - The BI Damage

My dad, Jordan, Ben, and I arrived at the BI around 10:45 am to find damage to each of the three buildings on the property. We found Daryl right away, who was already busy working on the clean up.

The neighbor's cement fire wall collapsed on the BI's entry garage roof. Half of the roof buckled and fell under the weight of the neighbor's cement. Thankfully, the evening before Daryl did NOT park his van where he normally does under the garage roof. Instead, he parked it by his back door. His van would have been damaged by the falling garage roof. The other vehicle (in the photo) was undamaged as well.

Four men from the nearby Christian bookstore were already at the BI helping dismantle the broken roof.
The debris was moved away from the entryway.

There was no damage in the new kitchen and girls bathroom upstairs. The new gas stove was untouched!
The priority for that Sat. morning was to deal with the leaning chimney. It was in danger of falling down on a lower roof.

Daryl, my dad, Mario, and I came up with a plan to secure the chimney in order to tear it apart brick by brick. This was the only way to transfer the weight of the chimney and insure no more damage would occur. This was VERY important to do, since Temuco was still experiencing aftershocks over 6.0 on the Richter scale.

All the bricks were thrown off the roof into a pile to be moved into the street for removal.

Thankfully, we finished tearing down the chimney without causing any more damage.

The library was a mess. Books and bookshelves on the floor. Ceiling tiles and lights were damaged.

The computer keyboard was damaged in the library.

In the next post, we will continue to show more damage at the BI...
